Geology, Business, and Convergence

Two phone interviews, and time to schedule another.

The first interview was with a local outsourcing company.  The prospect rather appeared out of nowhere.  They are a global company that does a lot of system administration outsourcing and they have an office in Madison.  I had a phone interview with a recruiter that I think went ok.  I was rather frustrated and tired and I am pretty sure that came over on the phone.  I'll find out next week if my qualifications are good enough to get to the next level.

The other interview was with the Geology department.  Overall, the interview was great.  They use a lot of the same software I use on my servers.  This was the first round of interviewing and next week they will let me know if I get an in person interview.  They sound like they want someone to start pretty soon, so hopefully the one month I would need for my notice at my current job would not be a negative. Preliminary indications from my end are good.  I like the position, it sounds interesting and has potential.  We'll see if that feeling keeps up next week if/when I get the interview.

Last update is that I received a call from the Business School about my application there.  I have to setup a phone interview for next week.  It would be interesting to work as a full time staff member at my old college haunts.

Wish me luck!

Job Hunting

I guess I have reached my limit with my current job and need to go somewhere new. There is just not enough time to do what needs to be done and with more and more staff leaving, there is not enough people to handle it all. If LJ was feeling better, I might be able to push through. Though with her being sick, I can’t put in more than 60 hours/week. That is too much to keep up for a long period of time. Too much to do, too much stress, and then the added fun of knowing any extra work I put in will not be recognized at all. Kind of like the systems I build in my off time, I’d get a pat on the back with nothing much else to say for it. With just one income right now, it’s not a good scenario.

In the job search, I am 0/2. At MATC I was turned down without an interview. At the CSL, I did manage to get an interview. Working there would have been just about a dream come true, but it turn out not to be. I have an interview coming up with the Geology department with a good looking job and I’m applying to another job at the School of Business. Stay tuned for updates.

Then again, I have a meeting with a higher up in the company this week to talk about staffing. My tune may change after that, but we shall see.

On a happier note, check the Pictures link over there (=====>) for pictures of the new dog that is helping keep me sane.

w00t! trashed Windows

It's about... 2.55 am. I was trying to get VMWare to work on my home computer. I had problems trying to get Gentoo 2006.0 to see the bridged network. After uninstalling VMWare, reinstalling network drivers, and attempting to reinstall the drivers again, windows refuses to load. Sweet! :-/

Well, at least it gives me an excuse to reload Windows on this thing. Fortunatly, I have Linux along side it so I can backup the data before I do the reinstall. Maybe I can do it tomorrow while I work out how the hell I am going to

  • Find some efficient way to manage my team's resources and time
  • Figure out how to teach my class coming up this week
  • Get the updates I need in for the classes the week after this one
  • Get all the stuff out of the shed at MIL's old place
  • Fix errors in the program I wrote for the training team
  • Find out what the hell is wrong with me to heal up and get better
  • Make some goals. Inspired by my friend Loud.
  • Get back in touch with my friends (that I have fallen out of touch with
So much to do. So little energy to do it all in. I really wish I had some more willpower to pull on right now.

Cheers,
